Instagram's new repost feature and what it means for your feed

Instagram has rolled out a new feature that lets you repost other people’s content directly within the app. It’s been a long time coming, and while it’s not a radical update, it’s a useful one for anyone managing a brand’s social presence.

At Daffodil PR, we manage social media accounts for businesses across the South West and beyond, and we’ve already started weaving this into a few content plans. It’s a small change that could help keep feeds feeling more connected and less contrived.

What’s changed?

Until now, reposting on Instagram meant clunky third-party apps, screenshots, or manually crediting someone else’s content. Now, you can simply repost a feed post or Reel, and it’ll appear in a dedicated 'Reposts' tab on your profile, not on your main grid.

It means your carefully curated grid stays intact, while you still have room to share great content from your community, customers, or collaborators.

How is this different from reposting on Facebook?

Facebook reposts show up right in your timeline and look just like your regular content. Instagram’s version is more subtle. It separates original and shared content, which suits the platform’s focus on visual identity and brand consistency.

Why it’s worth using

If you’re running a business account, this feature can make your life a bit easier, and your content a bit richer.

  1. It’s a simple way to share customer content

Photos, reviews, testimonials - anything that shows your product or service being used in the real world - can now be shared without overloading your grid.

  2. Partnerships are easier to promote

If you’re working with a collaborator or running a campaign with another brand, this is a quick way to amplify each other’s posts without duplicating effort.

  3. It helps fill the gaps

We all have quieter content weeks. Being able to share something relevant from your network or a happy customer helps keep your page active without scrambling for new ideas.

  4. It streamlines your workflow

No more repost apps, screenshots, or reformatting someone else’s caption. It’s cleaner, faster and keeps you in the app.

A quiet but useful update

Instagram hasn’t shouted about this new feature, but we think it’s a smart move — especially for businesses that want to keep their grid tidy while still showing they’re connected to a wider community.

We’ll be using it more often with our clients, and particularly those where customer experience or word of mouth is key. If you’re wondering how best to use it, or how it might fit into your content strategy, we’re always happy to chat.
