What is Copy Writing?

A lot of people ask us what copy writing is, and actually it’s really simple.

Copy writing is the process of writing engaging material, so either a press release, an article for a magazine, something to go on your website, or it could even be a picture to go on your Instagram account – but it has to be engaging and it has to make people want to find out more about you, and your business.

But there are lots of mistakes that can be made with copy writing, so at Daffodil PR, we have come up with three top tips to help you with your copy writing:

Tip 1:

Well our first tip would be to make sure that you have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Good copy writing should be about wanting to draw people in at the beginning, the middle needs to be about all the detail and then at the end you need to call people to action, to either get them to send you an email, to go to an event or to pick up the phone and give you a call.

Tip 2:

Our second tip is to make sure that your copy tells a story. What is really important about this is to make your readers feel something by what it is you have written. Seth Godin said a very good quote, which was ‘people do not buy goods and services, they buy relations, stories and magic’ and that is so true when thinking about copy writing. It’s a bit like the story of us, at Daffodil PR, we are a mother-daughter team and that is the whole reason we started our business.

Also, the story behind our name, Daffodil PR, is quite interesting because my parents always loved daffodils and as a child, I always had daffodils in the house, and to me they mean growth, new beginnings – everybody smiles when the daffodils come out in the Spring, and that was something we felt was really important about our business and about what we can do to help other people.

Tip 3:

So, our third and final tip would be to always work with an expert when you’re producing any copy writing – try to be supreme and make sure that your copy is of the best standard it possibly can be, because there is nothing worse than reading copy that is badly written, that’s badly edited, with spelling mistakes, or that is just plain boring. It needs to be interesting and engaging.

Obviously some people might not feel confident enough to write it themselves, or don’t have the time to do it, so you can always get in touch with us at Daffodil PR on 01823 461463 or by emailing us at hello@daffodilpr.co.uk.
